June in San Diego

Playing a little catch up here, but I don't want to lose the summer. I took a last minute trip to San Diego to see Taylor graduate from middle school. What a trip graduation was at Castle Park Middle School. High school coming. How in the world did that happen! I can't believe how they've grown.

I had a great visit with Dee, Nick, and Butch. I spent some real quality time with them in Coronado. We had a really great time. What a nice life they have there. It's such a great place to live, and I'm so glad to see Nicholas (Nick) growing up to be such an awesome young man. He really is quite fabulous. Deedre and Butch have done such a great job. Awesome.

The people, the cake, and the Ecoball

The Ecoball, the first annual, and fundraiser for Baltimore Green Works. Part of the new and improved, we did our best to bring food, fun, friends and music to the greener Baltimoreans. Christina and I did the bulk of the work and it all came off as if it was an effortless convergence of goodness and light.

My first goal for the eco-fete was to secure a cake by Baltimore's celeb baker, Duff Goldman from Charm City Cakes. We did. The theme was simple, seeds - dirt - growth - flower. We had a rough sketch, but Sarah came through with the perfect illustration, and voila. It was great. (It ended with perfection predicted, they filmed an episode of the show at the party.)

Great outfit! Beth Fairall's "Project Greenway" students fashioned outfits for viewing and a lovely Financial Times, Wall Street Journal Pink skirt for me. I can't say enough about it. I couldn't have dreamed of a more perfect outfit. More perfection.

The day of, we had a great crowd of friends help us get ready. Christina, Sarah, Susan, Daniel, Nayeli, and Laura, all came in and got us set up with more than enough time to primp for the party. Then we waited for the people to come.

They came. So did the Gillerns, the Collins, the Perry's, K. Martz-Riska, Dr. Johnston, Nurse Cooper, Ms. Fuller, Eddie the human megaphone and Lisa, Kate, the Posko's, Susan and Jenny, Ron and Natalie, and lots more great friends.
I am grateful for my friends who supported us and our first big night.

It was simple, it was overwhelming, it was perfect.

Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009

After almost being completely compressed and deflated at the First Street entrance, I slipped out of the crowd (who told me I wasn't going anywhere) and went north and west. I mistakenly made it into the Parade route briefly at 14th St. (finally glad to make it somewhere), found a Secret Service man who told me to go up to I/19th and walk down. I got to the Mall at 11 a.m.! I couldn't believe it took so long. I was by the Washington Monument, ran into some friends (I had coincidentally spoken to the night before) and stayed with them all day.

It was so an amazing day. I think my legs separated from my body by the end of it all.

Obama Expresses his love for Baltimore

Yesterday, The Obama-Biden Whistle Stop Tour came to Baltimore. My friends and I were fortunate enough to be chosen to volunteer at the event, and even moreso, to be posted at the VIP section in front of the stage. It was a long cold day in Baltimore. Despite the cold, 40,000 of us waited to see the next President. To pass the time, we got to know our fellow attendees better. We danced, sang, and passed the time with stories of our involvement with the campaign and our hopes for the future. Despite the 18 degree temperature, our hearts were warm!
When the President-elect, his wife Michelle, Vice-President-elect and Mrs. Biden, arrived the crowd was attentive, elated, and full of the most amazing energy. We listened to his speech so intimately crafted for Baltimore, and for a moment, we were all of one mind. Far reaching our expectations, they all came down from the stage to greet the crowd. They went around the entire perimeter greeting well-wishers with hugs, handshakes, kind words, and big smiles. My experience arc'd with a handshake and a forearm grip with the new President! We will always remember the day Obama came to Baltimore. I am excited for our country, and I will do my part to help us realize all of our goals.

Epiphany

The Epiphany party has come and gone. We had a nice crowd this year, with our special guest and host Joe Langley flying in from Chicago. Sally's desserts were once again a big hit, as was Granny's turkey and Joe's special Kafka treats.

Colorado

We spent the week between Christmas and New Year's in Breckenridge, Colorado. John Kellett's wife Pamela graciously arrranged use of her Uncle's house in Blue River. Susan, Sam, and Benjamin were in tow, and we set up house.
We skied most every day - with the exception of Sam who was sidelined with the flue. Susan, by maternal proxy, was also sidelined from the slopes.

We spent New Years Eve in Denver with Robert and Dave Terry. We all had dinner at the bar. A good time was had by all. It is good to be home. We did, of course, miss the puppies.
